Advent is a truly special time. At no other time of year is there so much baking, crafting, and decorating. We prepare for Christmas and show the people who are important to us that we are thinking of them. Homemade gifts are a lovely gesture. A Christmas flower arrangement is not only a beautiful decoration for the home but also a wonderful gift idea. This floral Christmas decoration is easy to make and offers a nice alternative to a traditional bouquet. Depending on the materials, flowers, and style chosen, such an arrangement always looks unique and individual.
Here’s what you need for a Christmas flower arrangement
- waterproof shell
- some connecting wire
- Flower scissors or all-purpose clippers
- a wet floral foam sponge
- a bundle of mixed branches
- a bunch of carnations or other cut flowers
- a few Christmas tree baubles
- Christmas decorations such as pine cones, apples, bells, etc.
Here’s how to create a festive flower arrangement in no time.
Step 1:
First, prepare the bowl for the arrangement and, if necessary, cut the floral foam to fit.
Step 2:
Place the floral foam in a bowl filled with water and allow it to slowly absorb the water. The absorption time for bricks is approximately 1 minute.
Tip: Please do not speed up this process by pressing the sponge into the water or running water over it. Pressure closes the capillaries, and the sponge may not absorb all the water. Then the flowers will dry out.
The wet floral foam is now placed in the designated tray.
Step 3:
Cut the branches to an approximate length of 25 cm. Remove the lower needles and insert the branches, mixed colorfully, into the floral foam from the outside in.
Step 4:
Shorten the flower stems to about 20 cm and distribute them in the middle of the floral foam, leaving room for some additional decoration.
Step 5:
Wrap the decorative accessories with floral wire at the bottom and twist it to secure them. Now arrange the decorations among the flowers and branches as desired – and your Christmas floral arrangement is complete!
By the way: Floral foam absorbs 95 percent of its volume in water and later releases this supply to the flowers. After that, water the arrangement a little every two days. Depending on the type of flowers, you can enjoy the pretty decoration for about a week.
